Plastic Welding Rod
Hot-gas Plastic Welding Filler Rod
Filler rods for hot-gas and extrusion welding of thermoplastic sheet — available in the common engineering plastic grades.
Overview
Plastic welding rods are the consumable filler material used in hot-gas plastic welding and extrusion welding processes to join thermoplastic sheet, fabricated vessels, tanks, and pipe. The rod material must match the base material being welded — welding a PVC component requires a PVC rod, a PP tank requires a PP rod, and so on. Mismatched materials produce weak, unreliable welds. Welding rod is available in the common thermoplastic grades used in tank fabrication, chemical processing, and industrial lining work: PVC, PP, HDPE, PVDF, ABS, and others. Advance Supplies carries welding rods in the grades commonly used in our fabrication and supply operations.
Typical uses
- Fabrication and repair of thermoplastic tanks, vessels, and sumps
- Joining thermoplastic pipe, fittings, and duct work
- Chemical-resistant lining repair and fabrication
- Plastic fabrication workshop consumable stock
Things to confirm before ordering
- Material grade — specify the same material as the base material being welded (PVC, PP, HDPE, PVDF, ABS, or other). Never mix materials.
- Rod profile — round (most common for hot-gas), triangular, or flat for extrusion welding nozzles.
- Diameter — 3mm and 4mm are the most common for hot-gas welding; confirm the diameter compatible with your welding equipment.
- Quantity — welding rod is typically sold by the kilogram or bundle; confirm quantity required.
